You live in a great neighborhood-with a historic district, close to the beaches, parks and recreation and a downtown undergoing a dynamic revitalization. Many of you are improving your properties and are increasing their values. We are all proud of our homes and our Lakes neighborhood. The Hollywood Lakes Section Civic Association (HLSCA) works to preserve and improve the quality of life in our neighborhood, and has done so continuously since 1961. HLSCA helps transform neighborhood pride into action. Your annual $20 membership assures an effective representation of our community in addressing issues that concern all of us. MEMBERSHIP – To every Lakes area resident – we extend a personal invitation to join our Civic Association, and ask for your assistance to help us protect and insure a high quality of life in the Lakes area. THE LAKES COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER AND WEBSITE (www.hollywoodlakes.com) keeps our Lakes Community well informed on local issues of interest. Copies of your Lakes Community Newsletter are distributed free to all Lakes residents quarterly.
MONTHLY MEETINGS: Our meetings are interesting, informative and entertaining. Meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month, except July and August. Over the past ten years, we have attempted to vary the locations to increase participation and to add a social element for our members. Members receive a monthly agenda notice advising the meeting and location. Our primary meeting location is The Hollywood Beach Civic Center, 1301 S. Ocean Drive. Occasionally, we meet at other locations of interest throughout the City. All residents are invited and refreshments are always served.
HOME OF THE MONTH PROGRAM: HLSCA initiated a Lakes Home of the Month Program in concert with the City of Hollywood. If you are interested in submitting an address for consideration of this monthly recognition, please contact us by e-mail with your recommendation: info@hollywoodlakes.com
CITY AND COUNTY/CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT-BEAUTIFICATION GRANTS: HLSCA has already applied and received awards for the City’s NCIIP grant program for a beautification project on Harding Street, east of US 1 and 14th Ave. and Sheridan Street recently. Area residents and HLSCA volunteers have provided a 100% "sweat equity" match for this project. We previously received two grants from Broward Beautiful. Those projects included Polk Street from 14th to 17th Avenue, and the Golf Course Corner planting at Polk & 17th Ave. We are seeking resident input and assistance for additional grant submittals through the City and Broward County’s Broward Beautiful Grant
TRAFFIC, SAFETY AND CRIME: HLSCA has a very active Traffic, Safety and Anti-Crime Committee. This committee serves as our primary liaison between the City Police Department and our neighborhood. CITY ISSUES - HLSCA’S PRESENCE AT CITY HALL: HLSCA works closely with City Government Staff, other Civic Organizations and elected officials for our community and our city’s preservation and quality development. HLSCA is an active member of the Hollywood Council of Civic Associations, working toward improved quality of life for all Hollywood.
